Education & Published Works
I am a writer and photographer with a Bachelor's degree in journalism and geography and a minor in Italian from the University of Alabama. In the spring of 2013 I traveled to Spain and Portugal to write for the fifth issue of Alpine Living Magazine in which I had seven stories and two photographs published. The following year I traveled to the state of Washington to write two more stories that were published, along with three photographs, in the summer 2014 issue of Tuscaloosa Magazine as part of a larger feature entitled Wandering About Washington. While pursuing a Master's degree in journalism at the University of Alabama, I was selected as the Editor-in-Chief of the sixth issue of Alpine Living. In the spring of 2015 I traveled to England and Wales with 14 writers, editors, photographers, and designers to produce content for the sixth issue of the magazine. Along with my duties as Editor-in-Chief I contributed two stories and 12 photographs. During my third semester of graduate school I contributed four stories to the winter 2016 issue of Alabama Publisher, a publication put out by the Alabama Press Association. In the spring of 2016 I traveled to Chile to help produce the first issue of Vida Magazine. I worked as a writer, photographer, and copy editor. I contributed one story and one photo story. Most recently I wrote a story for Weld: Birmingham's Newspaper about the growing TEDx scene in Birmingham.
Family & Interests
I am the second of four children in a family of six and am originally from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I have also lived in Virginia, Georgia, Maryland, and Alabama where my family has resided for the last 12 years. Growing up around the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia, I became an avid hiker and outdoorsman. I have hiked in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of both California and Spain, as well as the Santa Monica Mountains, the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Smokies, the Appalachians, the Pyrenees, the Cascades, and Mount Rainier in Washington. I am a fervent soccer fan and supporter of the London based team, Chelsea F.C. My favorite books are Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, and The New American Road Trip Mixtape by Brendan Leonard, the authors of which have heavily influenced my own writing style.
